Kris in the studio

"My paintings utilize a variety of media and techniques to build multilayered abstract worlds. I am influenced by nature; gestures and forms I've seen in clouds, images from astronomy, and microscopic scenes encountered during my training as a nurse anesthetist. My background in printmaking and ceramics influences how I enjoy making a painting by building and removing layers, masking and resist techniques, and a leaning into the physicality of the medium. I typically start with pours, sprays, or brushstrokes of pigment to express an intial feeling or tension. As the work progresses, decisions are made intuitively to allow for chance to play a part. Often my finished paintings have gone through many destructions and resurrections, and I wouldn't have it any other way." -Kris
